2015 Be BRAVE scholarship winners.

We were the brainstorm and major contributor to bring Chris Herren, former NBA basketball player, to Tuscola High School, to speak to all of the Douglas County high school students, (over 1,100 students) about addiction and drug use. There was total silence with full engagement during the 2 hour session.  Many people were touched.  He also spoke to the public in the evening.

We are offering scholarships to Douglas County high school seniors who submit a 2-page essay describing a specific incident how he/she has been faced with an opportunity to use substances that are illegal and/or harmful to their health and have been brave to resist the temptation.  It could also be how he/she has helped a friend who is struggling with substance abuse, or the impact it has made on their lives.   Winners will be chosen by the Be BRAVE committee at the close of the school year. There will be one scholarship awarded per school.  Winners will be chosen anonymously and all content will remain confidential.  Essays may be submitted to or to the high school office by May 1 of each year to be considered for selection.
